Data Affection

A pair of bureaucratese-style terms crossed my screen a few weeks ago:

  • "data spill", meaning an inadvertent leakage of private/personal information (cf. [1])
  • "bonds of affection", referring to family ties, perhaps, or other connections that go beyond mere friendship

It occurred to me that they could be cross-bred to yield two new relationship descriptions:

Bonds of data
people held together by their shared information
Affection spill
misplaced emotional ties, as in Robert Browning's poem My Last Duchess

(Hmmm!—I wonder if other such jargon phrases could be hybridized to yield useful or humorous results?) - ^z - 2009-09-12
